About Us

Guiding Principles
Integrity, Leadership and Excellence.

These three words were chosen carefully as a reflection upon the people who make up Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple. These words are important guiding principles upon which we base our business.

Integrity means being honest and doing the right thing based on principle, even when no one is watching. Trust is built upon people who show integrity in every aspect of their lives. You entrust us with your business and we want to continue to earn that trust.

Leadership is vastly important in today’s business climate. People look to learn from leaders who are confident, thorough and willing to take care of those who are in need. We are proud of the rich history we have in leadership for our community.

Excellence is something we all strive for at FTW. Excellence in the practice of law, client service and the quest for learning.

History
Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple began in Central Massachusetts in 1822 with two individual lawyers, Ira Moore Barton and Peter Child Bacon. Over the years since that beginning, the firm quickly established itself as a premiere Massachusetts law firm, responding to the needs of the community and its clients at every opportunity. Two centuries later, the firm continues the tradition of community service based on the model set forth by Attorney Barton, who was a judge, state senator and presidential elector. Today, many of the firm’s attorneys follow in those footsteps. We are proud to have individuals serving Massachusetts as district attorneys, judges, legislators, mayors, clerks of court, corporators, trustees and officers. Additionally, the firm regularly gives back to the business community through active participation and leadership in the Worcester, Corridor Nine, and Metrowest Chambers of Commerce, among other organizations.

Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple continues to grow its strong reputation through a broad range of practice areas—always adapting to the changing needs of the community and its clients. Since 1822, FTW has grown to sixteen specialty practice areas serving clients ranging from individuals and families, charitable organizations, family-owned businesses, as well as large corporations. The firm serves as corporate counsel to numerous businesses and non-profit organizations, administers the region’s largest estate and trust practice and has a full service litigation, commercial lending and land use practice.
